Hello, Welcome to another Bike and another Restoration Very Special one this one. This is a Kirk Precision, built in the 1980’s Designed by Frank Kirk. Who was a Ford Car Designer Legend has it that he got the inspiration for the design for this frame, from a Ford Serria bumper. Believe it or not! Very Beautiful, Very Futuristic looking bike! I cannot believe it is from the 1980’s I think it was about 1987 that was actually produced. and what Kirk did was boast that the fact that this bike was made out of Magnesium, which was produced one frame, from one cubic meter of sea water, which produce one of these frames. A huge amount of electricity. But one cubic meter of Sea Water. Which was completely recyclable Yes very forward thinking. and a lovely looking bike! I have even seen a video, of this bike on a program called Tomorrow’s World which was back in the eighties, some of you may remember! and a Car actually drove over one of these frames it did not do any damage to the frame itself. So extremely stiff, which makes it a very good race bike basically. The bike was raced! It was used by, a guy called Phil Anderson and members of the TVM Team. and also rode in the pro pelaton and in the Tour De France Unfortunately the bike was only around for few years though. The company was plagued by a lot of problems and even a huge fire at the factory, which was created by Magnesium dust itself, so it was not around for too long. Which makes this bike even rarer I also I read that they was an Urban myth that some body came off one of these bikes on British soil, and basically created a few sparks from the road and ignited the frame. I do not know how true that is. Maybe someone can shed some light and leave a comment below but unfortunately it was not around long enough to carry on. But yes extremely happy that I have got hold of this bike. it is in really good order. So what are we going to do with ours I have seen somewhere an original poster Which I want to try and copy and basically keep the feel of this bike, how it was in that poster. So what are we going to do, we are going to change the saddle, change the seat post. The handle bar tape we are going to change, the wheels are in really good order We are going to change the tyres as we always do, put gum wall tyres on Unfortunately though, it does not have any Decals, the frame is in lovely condition. But it does not have any decals so, I am going to have to locate them somewhere. So I need to start researching and locating where I can get hold of them. But as we do we always strip down the bike, I do not know to what degree. I am going to take it back for a clean, but it is in really good order. So lets get a move on with that, and take it from there. OK. Well there is the frame all stripped down I can not stop looking at it to be honest with you. Really loving the design of this I have left the bottom bracket in, the bike seems as though it has been recently rebuilt. As I say the frame is in extremely good order. So I am going to leave the bottom bracket in, its a sealed bottom bracket. I am going to leave these gear levers in as well, they look a bit complex Everything that I need to get to is all here so, all that I need to do now is clean up a few of these bits, exchange a few get buying a few things and get trying to find these Decals Well where are we up to with this. We have completely rubbed the frame down, with a nice T-cut just to get rid of any blemishes. it did not really need it, it has had a lovely spray job on the actual frame itself But I did mention we was missing the actual Decals for the frame. I have located and found a web site called H Loyd Cycles I will leave a link below. If anybody does need any Decals they do ship Worldwide, a very good Service I did find them on there but they only had them in black and white I think. So I e-mailed Steve, which is the guy who owns the site, very good service. He came back straight away. and he has produced some red decals, original decals to go back on to the bike itself. So very happy! As I say they do ship World Wide so I will leave a link below regarding that site for anybody who does need any decals they can get on that. Other than that lets get moving with these, and get them back on the frame. Well where are we up to with the project! The Re-build! The most exciting part of the project. We have got all the parts all laid out on the side. All nice and clean, Did not take to much cleaning it was a vey clean bike to begin with, But what we have done, we have changed the bat tape. we have got some nice red bar tape, Vintage Bar Tape to actually go with the original feel from that poster that we seen. and I have also managed to get hold of a nice vintage saddle. with a fluted seat post. Got some nice red toe straps, to finish that off. and I have also managed to obtain a couple of anodised red bottle cages so should look really well with the Gum Wall tyres, should take you straight back to the eighties Very, Very Excited about this one. What I did not mention as well was. When I took the bike apart, because it was a very unusual frame I was a little bit unsure, no shame in it at all just a bit of a tip! If you are unsure of anything, we live in a modern world now. Just take a few picture’s of the cabling just so you know where the routing and everything else goes. If you are unsure of anything as you take it apart take a couple of pictures. Just helps you put the bike back together, so their is a bit of a tip for you. Very, very excited so can not wait to get this one out, it should be a good ride. So lets get cracking and get this bike back together! Right OK, Brilliant well thats the Bike all back together. it looks absolutely amazing, I am sure that you will agree! Really, Really loving the lines on this. and I am really happy that I have managed to get hold of them Decals. so yes very happy yes it is such a stunning Bike. So all that is left to do now is, very excited about this. Get it Out, and Try it Out! Well this is the Kirk Precision. What a beautiful iconic Bike it is, back from the 1980’s and it rides more like a modern day bike. and yes a very cool Retro looking Bike. Very happy that I have managed to get hold of one of these. I have always wanted one. I really do not know if I am going to sell this Bike or not. Yes Beautiful has not took much cleaning to bring back. and it is here for many years to come, and I am sure it will bring a lot of pleasure. So yes, very happy that I have done it.
