Hello, Welcome to another bike and another restoration. This is a Raleigh Quasar 12 How do I know that, it is written on the top bar here. What a lovely bike it is though, it was part of a family of bikes That we have already done. The Raleigh Team Cadet. The Raleigh Corsa The Raleigh Record Sprint and also a bike that was similar which was just below this one which was Raleigh Pulsar 10 the pulse 10 had 10 gears, the Raleigh Quasar had 12 they was very similar bikes regards to the way that they looked. But very different regards to the frame tubing etc. so this bike I actually looked into it it has more or less all the same components as the Raleigh Record Sprint same frame Renolyds 501 double butted tubing had the 18-23 tubing on the folks but the brake callipers was the same however these ones are in black, the chain itself is the same seat post, it did have a different crank and different pedals, very unusual pedals these I have not actually seen these before but i remember being a kid and being amazed by this bike because it looked so futuristic loverly colour scheme on it but what it was, was the aero brake levers, and also the handle bars they bent round a bit more. a bit more like track bars so these were very early Shimano Aero Brake levers so loverly loverly bike and another great Raleigh to add to the collection that we have already done so, this bike itself it is all in original order people ask me regards to what I look for when I am buying a bike to restore. Generally the more that you can get original on the bike. and just clean up the better it is financially better, because some parts can cost a fortune. things like the water bottle can bump the price up so this bike is a absolute gem. all original parts, the only thing that is different is the rear wheel but yes, not to much to worry about! the other this that I do before I strip the bike down, I generally use a lubricant or something like that just to spray into all the parts themselves let them soak in, just helps with regards to dismantling the bike so lets get this bike stripped down and take it from there Brilliant well. there is the bike all stripped down it was not to much trouble at all the only bit that was the drive side of the bottom bracket I had to get that in the vice just to loosen that off but the bearings from the bottom bracket and also the headset were fine not a problem at all so it seems as though it has been well maintained in that respect as I do I always have a box down here to put all the parts in so they are not all shattered about so all the parts are here to be cleaned up and degreased and polished and the frame itself is not in to bad order there is a few parts of spot rust which a good clean and polish should bring most of that up hopefully most will be just surface rust and we will take it from there so lets get cleaning and carry on Well, where are we up to with this project its a very very fast turn around this one I have had to buy a couple of things one of them was a new set of wheels and the reason for that was a back wheel was more or less the same cost as a set, so I have bought a set of wheels but if you remember about the back wheel and that I had a few concerns about it part of the actual rim itself had broke away so really was not safe. to ride on so had no option at all other than to replace the rim. so I have got some brand new but old stock 700c rims so very happy about them and I have taken the old cassette off the old wheel and just popped it on here and got some gum wall tyres as I always do what else have we got we have done the bar tape got some nice bar tape and I have also managed to obtain a loverly swede saddle very in keeping but its like new so very impressed with this got some new toe straps swell for the pedals and some new brake blocks so yes should come out really well this one can’t believe we are at this stage already so lets get this bike built back up and ready to ride lets get going! OK, brilliant well theres the bike all back together what a transformation looks such a cleaner bike now very happy with it looks such a slick bike loving this swede saddle really sets it off and brings it back I did have a little trouble with this rear mech it was a different routing system cabling I did leave the original cable in there so that I could see exacting how the routing for the cable was but yes I did have a bit of trouble with that but all that is left to do now is get it out, and try it out Well this is the Raleigh Quasar what a beautiful bike its turned out to be loving the new wheels that I have put on with the black rims, really goes well and how the bike was just improves the ride so much, as I say new wheels but old stock so very in keeping with the bike itself Reynolds 501 and yes its absolutely lovely all the brake levers I am really enjoying and the swede saddle just finishes it off so Very very happy that I have done this and its another on to add to the Raleigh Collection. if you do enjoy and want to watch more of the Raleigh Bikes I do have a playlist just for them and as I always say If you haven’t subscribed them please do so other than that drop us a like and thanks for watching! all the best, by for now!
