Hello and welcome to another Bike, and another restoration If you are into your Retro Road Bikes and your not a Subscriber as I generally always say then please click on Subscribe it is completely free of charge and helps out a lot So, what have we got here? We have got a Kestrel 200SC. How do I know that? Well it tells me so just here. But before we get on to our bike, what we generally do on these videos is talk a little bit about the company itself Kestrel back in 1986 were the worlds first all carbon bicycle frame. Producing high end triathlon and also race bikes and companies such as Giant and also Trek took direct influence from this American based company. Very futuristic and still going strong to this day. So on to our bike, lets have a look at it. well I have mentioned it is the 200SC model. This is exactly how I got the bike, a real blast from the past this. Got Profile Aero Bars up there, a real nice colour them as well I really do remember them. They are a real blast from the past. But what is even more so, is the computer that is on it. It still has the Avocet computer. Many of you will remember these, looking back their was not many bikes in the peloton that did not have one of these computers. Very big in its day in the 1980’s. I am really loving that. Very retro and very cool, the group set itself. It is the Shimano 600 but it is the Tri Colour. it then became the Ultegra so it is the 6400 group set and I know that this bike is around 1988 to 1991 and the reason for that is because this group set was introduced then. But is was the rear mech, that in 1991 changed they had a cut out on the rear mech here. so I am putting the bike in between 1988 and 1991 probably used for Triathlons itself Double water bottle cage they look original they look quiet old and dated I am going to be changing the saddle for sure and the bike itself does not look it to bad condition But as we generally do in these videos and what we always do before we can get and have a good look we have got to strip the bike down, so what are we waiting for. Lets Crack On! Brilliant well that was a dream. With no broken parts really happy with this the frame is in real good order. What I would like to say if you are brand new to this channel and you are new to stripping bikes. 90% of the time this drive side here, unless it is a French bike or Italian Bike this drive side to un do it. you need to turn it around clockwise so that what the crank side is on there. Turn that clockwise to un do it it is the opposite thread. The other thing that I generally always say as well keep a bucket down here. Put all the bits in you can not loose them as you take the nuts off then put them back on and then place then in the bucket they are then ready for cleaning, and keeps everything safe. so lets get a move on and get cleaning these parts. OK, brilliant well there is the frame all cleaned up. it really is immaculate, what I would say if you are looking to buy a bike to restore. when you do look at photograph’s try and find one that has not been ridden for a why and it all still has the original parts on. Because generally these are the ones that clean up the best. This has come up like new, I can not believe it. and the wheels I got some Gum wall tyres delivered So I have polished the wheels up they themselves look hardly used. So their you go, brilliant I have done nothing at all other than clean them. so very happy, and I can not wait to get this bike back together. But before we do we need to Crack On and get the rest of the parts polish up and the handlebars taped up. So lets get a move on with that. Brilliant well we are finally here. This is the part I enjoy the most. Which is the rebuild. All your hard work comes together, or in this case its not been to much hard work it has just been a real deep clean I really thought it would of been. But the bike had not been touched I could tell that when I first bought the bike. and it has cleaned up really good. Just used some metal cream polish to clean up the parts. They have come up really well, their is a lot of anodised parts. So I have give them a light rub down they are great they are all working fine. I did have a little bit of trouble with the in line cable. What I had to do was use some gearing cable to thread it through the frame itself. and then I threaded the inner cable through that and then drawn the cable away. So that is all ready to pull our new cable through. I did buy a couple of items. I have got a nice Turbo Saddle, very in keeping with the bike itself with the time. Which is a Turbo Lite Saddle, very nice and very in keeping with the carbon frame. and I have also bought some nice aero pedals to go with the bike. But we are going to be, if you watch this channel we take the bikes out. So hang around for that. But I am going to be putting some Look Keo peddles on, clipless pedals Just to take the bike out and give it a good ride. So I can not wait for that. So what are we waiting for lets Crack On and get this Bike back together! WOW! Well, what a result! The bike itself looks brand new, it looks stunning! Really really happy that I have managed to get hold of this bike and to share with you. Kestrel, first carbon road bike frame and back from the 1980’s can you believe it, i did have a little bit of trouble with this left hand gear lever it is a spring loaded one, for a light action. So I had to put that in to a certain position to actually load the spring up. We got there in the end. Other than that the Bike itself was a dream to put back together. We do finish these builds off with a water bottle. I do have one just down there. and what I am thinking with this white bar tape, there is a lot of black going on. So to compliment the white bar tape. I have just got a white Retro water bottle, in keeping again with the age of the bike. Brilliant, I can not wait to get this bike out so with the Sun out, lets get our guns out, and try this bike out! Well, what animating ride this is, a very fast bike indeed and it has put a big smile on my face. it is riding like new, loving the Shimano 600 group set and what a lovely light bike that this is. I really have enjoyed it, and I am really enjoying being back on the road and putting these bikes back where they belong! so yes if you so enjoy watching these and you are not a Subscriber then please Subscribe it is completely free of charge.
