In this video I’m going to show you how to install a truck horn in the car This can be done when your horn doesn’t work, as was my case or when it sounds very low and high pitched and you don’t like it I also tell you that I don’t know how legal this is, so you better find out according to the country you’re in This is a double-tone metal horn, thus it weighs a lot and it is as if two cars were honking at the same time, that is, it sounds on two frequencies In principle, the simplest way to connect something like this, is to grab the two wires that it has remove the old connector from the horn that is broken and make a splice there. Well, you don’t really need to cut the cables, or splice anything you just put the pins pressured in the connectors it has and leave everything covered with the plastics it has or with a glue gun, so it isn’t spoiled by dampness or has any short circuits I think that the best option is doing it this way, even if it’s a bit sloppy because if later in the vehicle inspection they say anything, we can remove everything in that moment Here is when I began to have problems, or I didn’t know how to do it right It could be that the button on my steering wheel was broken, or that the horn came broken What I did was disconnecting it and using a cable I had passed before See there’s a heatsink? Well, that’s because I put some lights that could be seen a mile away I’ve the video on my channel in case you want to see it And that’s how they can’t fail, you connect them directly to the battery with a switch on the dashboard, where you can put it Then the horn must be placed somewhere where it is going to stay fixed I put in the sump guard, because it’s made of metal and I didn’t want to make a hole in the chassis Use a drill bit which is the same size as the screws that come with the support and make the drills carefully and making sure there is nothing behind you can break, such as a hose or something like that Once we’ve checked that we’ve done the holes well and that the support fits well at least in my case, I had to remove the sump guard and the screws, lift it a little to introduce the hand and be able to put it inside If you look, it has a piece of rubber as if was a washer, so to speak, this is so that when the screw is tightened it doesn’t turn on itself, but that the nut is tightened as well I also put a piece of rubber on the outside Even if you have access with your hand to tighten the nut and hold it inside I recommend you put these rubbers, cause otherwise with the vibrations of the engine, everything ends up loosening Actually these are only two screws, two rubbers, two nuts and an ‘L’ shaped plate It’s not complicated at all, just tighten it well and when you see that there is no way to tighten it more that’s the right point. With this already tightened, we could put the sump guard in his place and I recommend you also put rubbers on these screws, cause otherwise they will become loose and squeak When we have all this in place, before we put the horn, which is simply putting two screws we could paint it with a black spray so that it isn’t seen when we remove it in the inspections Now, we only need a button to activate it, since it will be connected to the battery Since this button had a lot of pins, you have to check which one closes the circuit We can pull out the rest We make a hole to one of these plugs, so we can change it easily and we don’t have to pierce the dashboard and then we pass two wires, one to the negative pole, and another to the horn The positive, can go directly to the horn and this would be what closes the circuit In order to explain it more easily I’ll show it to you with a drawing We have a button, a battery and a horn We connect the 3 things and when we press it sounds The button, at least these of metal, goes as if it was a screw with its nut, and it can be placed this well Then, in theory, it was just a matter of connecting everything and pressing the button to see how it worked But it wasn’t like that I thought it could be because the battery was low and there wasn’t enough voltage The thing is that in the box it said ‘electrically air horn’, that is to say that it is with air, but electric I thought that the little gray thing was like a motor, giving it air and that’s it but it wasn’t like that, it needed a compressor and that was just the valve So I bought a kit of plastic ones and used only the compressor, with the metal horns that I had already installed What this is going to do is create air, as a little tire pump and send it through a tube to the horn which is installed by putting a threaded tube and then putting the rubber pressured But you have to tighten it well, with pliers, because otherwise the air will escape The best is to put the compressor as close as possible to the horn, because it has to send the air and the closer it is, the less it costs it and the louder it sounds It is necessary to cut the tube to the necessary measure what is more important is that there aren’t any folds where the air can’t flow as if it was the typical hose. That’s how it looks. It seems someone has put a bomb under the car, so it is best to paint it black The thing is it still didn’t sound and this was my fault you have to connect, besides the compressor, the valve of the horns, because it’s what lets the air flow then when you press the button activates the two things and this is how it sounds In person it sounds a lot, it even shuts the dogs up and people get scared when you use it. It’s pretty cool and it isn’t too obvious or doesn’t look bad.
