Hello everybody ! I ‘ll show you how to recharge your car’s AC system with duracool cans. The car is a Clio but the procedure is the same on other cars. . Fisrt I measure the temperature in the cabin without AC system. I put a sensor in the air vent output. I attach it securely . So I can read the temperature of the air in the cabin. Here it’s the temperature wihtout ventilation. Then I start the ventilation without AC. Without AC system, the air is at about 29°C. I start the AC compressor. And I check the temperature. It becomes lower. It means that the AC system is working. So I can recharge it. To increase the compressor efficiency I increase the engine speed by adding a block on the throttle here. to have 2000 to 2500 rpm. The RPM is rather 1900 RPM. It’s sufficient. There is enough noise and the compressor is enough efficient. This is the system to measure the fluid pressure and to recharge the system. It’s a can with refrigerant compatible with the R12 and R134a fluid.
It’s not the original fluid. It seems that it’s better : The density is higher, It pollutes less on so on… but it has a disavantage I show you the disavantage which hasn’t the original fluid. At the end of this video, I ‘ll compare the two fluids. You buy the cans with this connector, you can measure the fluid pressure. The pressure should be less than 45 PSI. when the engine is started and AC system ON. I unscrew the low pressure plug. I pull the ring of the connector like this. I connect it, I can read the pressure The pressure is higher than 45 PSI, but it’s because the compressor is stopped. I start the engine and the AC compressor. The compressor sucks the fluid, and the pressure reduces. Here the pressure has reduced. The pressure is too low, so I ‘ll add some fluid in the system. I unscrew here the can. I unscrew with the can upside down : The liquid part of the fluid is injected. I do it slowly Try to not exceed 45 PSI. Here the fluid is injected, the engine slows down. The temperature reduces, it means that the system is working well. I have unscrewed entirely, my can was partially filled. I will take another can because the pressure isn’t enough high. You can see that the temperature has reduced. So the first can is empty and I havn’t finished to recharge the system. I will use a second can. I will show you how to fix it on the connector. I unscrew the empty can. The can is really empty. The connector here has a tip. This tip will pierce the cap of the can. I move the tip back by unscrewing. The tip has moved back. Here there is a washer, don’t lose it ! This connector needs to be perfectly hermetic to work well. This can is new, here it’s the cap wich will be pierced by the tip. So I screw the can on the connector, since the tip is moved back, the can stay closed. Then to pierce the can, I will screw. But the the fluid will stay blocked. And by unscrewing, the fluid will go out of the can. Pay attention to all washers and connectors : It should be hermetic ! Let ‘s go with the second can. I display the temperature here. The aim is to have about 15°C less than the ambient temperature. I place the system. Here it’s about 14°C. I hope to reduce the temperature again.
I pull the ring And now I will pierce the new can. I screw totally. Now the can is pierced. I unscrew very slowly. The can is empty. I screw totally to close the can. And I stop the engine. I unplug the connector. I place the plug. Since the second can is empty, my recharge has spent one can and a half. Here is a table to compare the refrigerant Duracool 12a to the R134a. First the density is best : it takes 3 less volume than the R134a. The transport and storage are easiest. Advantage Duracool ! The Duracool is an hydrocarbon contrary to the R134a which is a hydrocarbon halogen. It ‘s very inflammable. Advantage R134a for the security. For the same reasons, the R134a has an important greenhouse effect compared to Duracool 12a which is claimed to be green. Advantage Duracool ! And for the same reasons too, the R134a needs an approval to be used. You need it to buy it in France. Advantage Duracool which not need an approval. The R134a is recommended by the brand of the car. The AC system is developped especially. The Duracool works well but it isn’t recommended by the brand. Advantage R134a. The duracool and R134a aren’t miscible. You have normally to recharge an empty system. But it works. I have a leak so my system haven’t a lot of R134a inside. Advantage R134a. Finally the price of Duracool is less than a recharge in a car centre which is 50 euros minimum, and it will increase. The can costs about 18 euros, my recharge has cost about 27 euros. I have used one can and a half. But you have to add the shipping cost and the connector which cost about 45 euros. It’s rentable but after some recharge. Cost advantage : Duracool. It’s the end of this video. For me I have a leak so I recharge the system each year with Duracool. I think to use R134a when it will be repared.
